What is Rainier Scholars like?
It is hard work. Doors swinging open. Horizons widening. It is limits pushed. Friendships cemented. Confidence earned.
Rainier Scholars asks students to work harder than perhaps they have ever worked before. It asks for no less a commitment from each scholar’s family. At the same time, scholars get assistance and encouragement that enables them to excel. Expectations are considerable. Academic and emotional support is abundant. We show scholars and their families the path, but they do all the walking.
Because Rainier Scholars is such a comprehensive, transformative experience, it is difficult to sum up in a few words. Here’s what the parents of some of our scholars have told us:
“Rainier Scholars saw my son’s potential and challenged him to reach it. It has broadened his horizons and opened so many doors for him. I would encourage all parents to take advantage of this opportunity of a lifetime.” -Nicolle Strong, parent of Syade Shields, 8th grader, University Prep

“The academic advantages Jaida has received by being in Rainier Scholars are amazing. I knew she was smart but I also knew she needed to be challenged to reach her potential. Rainier Scholars challenged her in so many ways and now it has really paid off with her current school work and I know it will well into her future.” -Kimberly Morgan, parent of Jaida Morgan, 9th grader, Garfield High School

“Being in Rainier Scholars was a sacrifice, but we’d do it all again. We had to cut back on his sports for awhile, but the trade off was more than worth it. Because of Rainier Scholars Jalen will have access to opportunities I never had. He’s not only doing well in school but he’s also made the basketball team.” -Darren Wright, parent of Jalen Wright, 7th grader, Lakeside School
