Phase Two
Grades 7 - 9: Academic Counseling and Support Services (ACSS)

Once scholars are enrolled in an advanced learning program or independent school, we help ensure that that they thrive in the program by providing ongoing academic and socio-emotional support, including:

  • Monthly one-on-one meetings at their schools
  • Weekly tutoring
  • Monthly social and cultural activities with other Rainier Scholars
  • Case management and support from our educational psychologist
  • Annual student and family meetings to address all aspects of high school and college planning
  • Opportunities for service learning and community volunteer involvement
  • Ongoing academic enrichment opportunities on an as-needed basis

Recognizing that a child’s education involves the whole household, we support the families of our students by partnering with parents to advocate for children in school and linking families to support services. We encourage the scholars to apply the many skills and tools learned during the 14-month academic phase to continue to strive towards academic excellence and serve as models for self-motivated and self-advocating learners who take risks and move out of their comfort zones to maximize their educational potentials.
