Looking Back, Looking Forward and Gaining Momentum

Annual Report

Simply inspiring! That's how we would describe the feeling when another cohort of hard-working and determined scholars earn their college degree, defying the odds and fulfilling dreams that took years to achieve.

We are eternally grateful for the deep community investment in our students and their college success. Through individual contributions and school partnerships to foundation grants, internships and business support, our scholar's transformative journeys are made possible.

As we celebrate 15 years of providing access and opportunity for future community leaders, we are also setting in motion ambitious plans to build on our success.

We invite you to review our 2015 Annual Report and reflect upon our new Vision 2020 to experience where we have been and to see where we are headed. Momentum is building, and we will continue to push the boundaries of possibility so that all students can go as far as their hard work and talent will take them.

Vision 2020

We are excited to share with you one of our most significant accomplishments from the past year: Vision 2020, our recently completed strategic plan. Adopted by the Board of Trustees in June of 2015, Vision 2020 reflects the culmination of in-depth program analysis, dozens of stakeholder feedback sessions and much discernment and discussion among Board and Staff leadership as to the organization's future direction and emphasis as we approach the next decade. While over our past 15 years, we have achieved great success and outcomes of which we are quite proud, the strategic planning process illuminated how much more there is to accomplish. We believe Vision 2020 offers a clear compass, map and inspiration for the next critical stage of our organization's development.

Our goals for the future fall in three key areas: Deepening our Impact, Strengthening our Infrastruture and Ensuring our Sustainability. The Executive Summary outlines specific program initiatives that will spur growth in each of these domains (the full Strategic Plan is available upon request). By undertaking this plan, we will become even better at our work of ensuring access to transformative educatonal opportunities for low-income students of color - breaking cycles of family poverty and creating generations of diverse, ethical and effective leaders for our community.

We are well aware that our success thus far would not be possible without our partnerships with schools, community organizations, individual donors, foundations, businesses and families. We welcome your thoughts about our vision for the future. As we move forward with plan implementation, we will offer periodic updates via our newsletter and other communication vehicles so that you may chart our progress in the coming years.

It is our long-term societal aspiration that a program like Rainier Scholars will one day need not exist. However, until that time arrives, we will keep a laser-like focus on creating access to high-quality educational opportunities and supporting our scholars in becoming the first in their families to graduate from college. Hundreds of scholars have already demonstrated that our model works and hundreds more are well on their way to college degrees and lives of professional success and community leadership. Still hundreds more do not yet know of the Rainier Scholars journey and the opportunities it holds. It is for all of those scholars and their families who believe in the promise of education that Vision 2020 is created.

Thank you for supporting our scholars and our program - past, present and future. Onward we go to 2020!
