Juniors Up to the SAT Challenge

How have Rainier Scholars 11th graders raised their SAT scores by an average of 200 points for the last 7 years running?

With loads of hard work, training and support from the Rainier Scholars Leadership Development Team! On March 7th, 30 juniors completed a 6-week series of full-day Saturday SAT prep sessions. With morning practice tests and afternoon skills workshops, students gain confidence and experience needed to tackle this daunting college requirement. Their consistent effort prepares them for the challenge of taking the SAT in mid-March.

The strategy allows scholars to complete their standardized tests junior year, leaving fall of senior year open for filling out college applications and writing personal essays.

Derek Rogers, Director of College Counseling for Rainier Scholars feels, "While there is, undoubtedly, more to a student's academic promise than simply a test score, the SAT plays a significant role in the college admission process. Our SAT prep class helps our students become more competitive applicants to a broader range of colleges."

Completion of SAT prep workshops mark another significant milestone for scholars on their way to college - with team Rainier Scholars behind them all the way!
